Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza was murdered by Israeli occupation forces on March 24, 2025, for carrying out his job as a journalist. This account is now managed by his team. This is Hossam’s team, and we share his final message: “If you are reading this, it means I have been killed – most likely targeted – by the Israeli occupation force. When it all started, I was just 21 years old – a college student with dreams like everyone else. For the past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors of northern Gaza to show the truth to the world, minute by minute, resolutely. On the sidewalks, in schools, in tents – wherever I could, I was a fight for survival. Oh my God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now I am finally at rest – something I have not known for the past 18 months.
I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people. I ask you now: don’t stop talking about Gaza. Don’t let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories – until Palestine is free.”

I promise you that I still carry the torch, rest in peace my beloved Ismail and Hasan.

Israel’s war on the people of Gaza has killed 232 journalists – an average of 13 per week – making it the deadliest conflict for media workers on record, according to a report by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs’ Costs of War project. More journalists have been killed in Gaza than in both world wars, the Vietnam War, the wars in Yugoslavia and the US war in Afghanistan combined, the report, published Tuesday, found.
OCHA results (the UN and its partners) show approximately 400 aid workers have been killed since October 7, 2023, demonstrating the serious impact of the ongoing war in Gaza by the actions of the Israeli occupation forces.Eight of the 14 bodies recovered Sunday from the site in the southern Rafah area were identified as members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), five as civil defense, and one as a UN agency employee, PRCS said in a statement. One PRCS medic remains missing.

Our 20 months of marches, slogans, street demonstrations and sit-ins have had no impact on the earthly equations of massacres, bloodshed and the deaths of thousands upon thousands of infants and young children. We are witnessing an intensification and more devastating massacres, devastation and genocide. Why have we not achieved any results? The answer is clear. We repeat the answer that we shared with all the protesters in the first days of the protests, in person, through the media, verbally, in writing and on foot today. The Israeli government, the US and all the governments involved in the genocide in Palestine are octopus institutions of violence, power and capital murder. Their power is the power of capital. This destructive, man-killing power can only be defeated and prevented from burning humanity by the liberating counter-power of the working masses of the world. Only 80 percent of the working population of the earth, consisting of workers in industry, education, mining, health care, transportation, agriculture, services, roads and construction, ports, journalists, etc., have the ability to limit this annihilation. They are the ones who can stop the wheel of labor, production and the capital order from spinning. Without them, no amount of capitalist brutality, destruction or genocide can be stopped. If we are to crush the camp of Israel, America, democracy, the capitalist system in the genocidal machine of Gaza, instead of spinning our wheels, we must go to the workers in the streets of Sweden, England, Germany, France, America, Asia, the world. We, the protesters, are an inseparable part of them, children, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, members of this class. We must enter into dialogue with the broad masses of our class in workplaces, residential areas, schools, universities, transport networks, ports, wherever they are. We must make what is happening in Gaza, the massacres, the children’s bodies, the floods of blood, the ruins, all part of their lives, minds, feelings and consciousness. We must shout to them that the two million people who have been slaughtered and under the bombardment of Gaza are part of you. Let us insist that in their support and against their massacres they stop the wheels of work and production from turning. Challenge the power of genocidal capitalist states with anti-capitalist workers’ power and force them to retreat. This is the only way to liberate the cursed Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and everywhere else.
